Hubballi: In a significant development, all the accused linked to the Old Hubballi riots, with the exception of three, were granted bail today. While the court approved their release, specific details are currently unavailable.

The riot unfolded on April 16, 2022, triggered by a social media post deemed offensive to a particular community. The unrest began with a minority community mob assembling outside the Old Hubballi police station to protest against the said post. The situation escalated into violence, with the mob pelting stones at the police station, nearby Hindu temple, and shops. Seven police vans were damaged in the turmoil.

To quell the disturbance, the police resorted to tear gas and rubber bullets. After hours of efforts, they successfully brought the situation under control.

In the aftermath of the violence, 12 FIRs were registered at the Old Hubballi police station, leading to the arrest of 152 individuals, including some minors. While a few had already secured bail, recently, 35 more obtained bail in the country’s highest court. The latest development sees all accused, except three, being granted bail by the court.
